BlueMark introduces DroneScout SDK Remote ID receiver

BlueMark extends its family of RemoteID receivers with the DroneScout SDK solution. It is a solution aimed at system integrators that want to integrate Remote ID receiver functionality into their product without having a separate box.

Remote Identification or Remote ID for short is a wireless license plate to identify drones. This direct/broadcast RemoteID technology will soon become mandatory in large parts of the world such as USA, EU, Japan and other regions for most drones more than 250 grams (EU legislation 2019/945).

The DroneScout SDK consists of the ds230 or ds240 radio board. This boards needs to be connected via USB to an embedded platform of the customer. On this platform our DroneScout application runs. This application needs a hardware license that uses the Serial Number of the CPU. At the moment ARM64 platforms are supported. Docker based solutions and/or other architectures are possible for an additional fee.

The price model consists of a one-time setup fee to help you integrate our product. A fee to purchase the ds230 or ds240 radio board. And a one-time fee for the DroneScout application (this can also be an annual fee).

BlueMark introduces the ds240 long-range Remote ID receiver

BlueMark extends its family of RemoteID receivers with the long-range ds240 receiver. Compared to the ds230 receiver it has 3x larger detection radius/9x larger detection area.

In practical deployments, the expected coverage area is  700 km2 / 15 km radius.

remote ID how does it work

The main advantages of the ds240 receiver are:

  • long range

The practical detection area is : 700 km2 / 15 km radius to receive Remote ID signals. See also section 1.9 of the manual.

  • all transmission protocols

The ds240 supports all direct/broadcast transmission protocols (Bluetooth legacy, Bluetooth Long Range, WiFi NaN and WiFi Beacon)

  • all frequencies

The ds240 supports all frequencies: 2.4 GHz and 5.2 and 5.8 GHz

  • easy integration

The ds240 allows easy integration. The MQTT data format is described and reference Python code is open source. Also you will have root access to customize the receiver according to your needs.

The ds240 can also be ordered as backbone: only the receiver without antennas, surge protectors and antenna cables. In this case you need to install your own!

Remote ID db122fpv: add-on for FPV drones https://bluemark.io/2023/05/remote-id-db122fpv-add-on-for-fpv-drones/ Thu, 04 May 2023 15:17:34 +0000 https://bluemark.io/?p=2548

Remote ID db122fpv add-on for FPV drones

BlueMark extends its family of RemoteID transponders with the db122fpv module: a RemoteID broadcast module for FPV drones or other drones that have already a GPS receiver on-board.

The db122fpv has two 6-pin Molex PicoBlade connectors: GPS IN and GPS OUT. Connect a GPS receiver, such as the BN-880, to the GPS IN port. (The module supports GPS receivers that output the NMEA GPS protocol.) The GPS OUT connector needs to be connected to the drone for power, but will also relay the received GPS data to this GPS OUT port.

The db122fpv module is available for ordering with a price of € 69. It is small (28 x 28 mm) and only 4 gram (antenna included).

Standard Remote ID Vs Remote ID Broadcast Module

In the USA, the FAA defined two Remote ID product classes: a) standard Remote ID and b) Remote ID broadcast module.

Standard Remote ID products communicate with the flight controller and allow to fly BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line Of Sight). A second advantage is that the pilot can view the Remote ID status in flight control software such as Mission Planner or QGroundControl. On the other hand, Remote ID broadcast module are stand-alone products and are only allowed for VLOS flight (Visual Line of Sight).

In other jurisdictions like the EU these Remote ID product classes do not exist.

Remote Identification or Remote ID for short is a wireless license plate to identify drones. This technology is mandatory in Japan, the USA and soon in the EU for most drones. Today, BlueMark extends the family of RemoteID transponders with the db121 and db121pcb: a RemoteID broadcast module without battery.

The db121 and db121pcb modules are RemoteID broadcast modules and approved by the FAA (FAA db121pcb) for use in the USA.  The db121 is small, only 36 x 38 x 28 mm, and weighs just 11 grams (db121pcb: 5 grams). It is basically a db120 transponder without battery, but needs to be powered by the drone (5 – 14V). Moreover, the transponder has a detection range up to 5 km due to the powerful antenna. The db121 can be ordered for 119 EUR ex VAT and the db121pcb for 109 EUR ex. VAT. More information about the db121 modules can be found at the product website.
